Retaining Walls
When you have to go big, go Redi-Rock.
Features of Reinforced Walls
1. Positive Connection (PC) blocks enable reinforced walls to achieve greater heights based on geogrid strength rather than block mass alone. Build up to 15 m high.
2. The strong (PC) top connection provides a secure mechanical link between blocks, enabling the wall system to support heavy live loads that exceed the capacity of traditional friction-based systems.
3. 300 mm geogrid strips pass through the PC block core, creating a secure and reliable connection that helps transfer loads effectively and reinforces the overall stability of the wall system.
4. Simplifies installation and reduces connection failures compared to sheet geogrid systems. Enables confident design and construction of taller reinforced walls.
Reinforced Wall Applications
Where are MSE Walls Used?
The Redi-Rock PC System is a mechanically stabilized earth (MSE) retaining wall solution that uses precast modular concrete blocks in combination with 305 mm wide PVC-coated polyester geogrid strips. A key advantage of the PC System is its high-strength mechanical connection.
They work great for:
- Bridge abutments and roadway approaches supporting transportation infrastructure
- Highway and rail embankment stabilization in limited right-of-way corridors
- Commercial site development requiring grade separation for parking or building pads
- Slope stabilization for hillside residential subdivisions and mountain terrain
- Shoreline protection and stormwater retention pond walls
- Industrial yard retention for heavy equipment storage and access roads

Structural Characteristics & Performance
Positive Connection (PC) technology provides a secure mechanical connection between the block and geogrid by wrapping reinforcement through the block core, significantly reducing the risk of pullout failure compared to friction-based systems.
Reinforced wall design is based on site-specific geotechnical conditions, with geogrid length determined by wall height, soil strength parameters, and anticipated loading in accordance with standard MSE design practices.
PC blocks are manufactured using structural-grade wetcast concrete with a minimum 28-day compressive strength of 4,000 psi (27.6 MPa), providing durability in freeze-thaw cycles, de-icing chemical exposure, and submerged freshwater or saltwater conditions.
Crushed stone infill placed within the block cores and between units creates a free-draining zone that improves internal drainage and overall wall stability.
Use of geogrid reinforcement strips, rather than full sheets, improves installation accuracy and contributes to consistent connection performance throughout the reinforced soil mass.
Reinforced Wall Design Options
Reinforced Redi-Rock walls in British Columbia are available in Ledgestone and Cobblestone finishes, with integrated options for curves, columns, cap units, stairs, and 90-degree corners.
These components can be combined within a single system, allowing reinforced (MSE), gravity, freestanding, and hybrid wall elements to work together seamlessly to address varying site conditions, elevation changes, and structural requirements within one cohesive design.
